Welcome Back

I welcome back all of our students hoping they have enjoyed a refreshing break and some good fun with family and friends in our beautiful weather. Our Year 12 students have not had it so easy and have been hard at work during the study break completing practise exams and catching up with their dedicated teachers for extra classes and revision.  They are now down to their final three weeks before their exams which no doubt will be an anxious time for them and we offer our prayers, best wishes and encouragement for the journey ahead.

Students Excelling

Our students were hard at work over the holidays as well with Georgia Thornton travelling to India to compete in the Commonwealth Karate Championship held in Delhi. Georgia won the gold medal for her class an outstanding achievement.

Callum McGregor also continued his good form in Irish Dancing competing in the National Australian Irish Dancing Competition where he also won a gold medal in the 15-16 year old category.

Congratulations to both these students on the dedication and persistence they have demonstrated in achieving excellence.


I congratulate Ms Marjorie Canal on her appointment to a senior leadership position at Killester College in Springvale. Ms Canal has been one of the founding members of the East Campus from 2011 and has been a wonderful teacher and role model for our students and staff. 

I also congratulate Ms Jessica Chakman on her appointment to the staff of King David College. Ms Chakman started her teaching career at St Peter’s and progressed to the inaugural role of Romero House Leader doing an outstanding job in building the charism of that house. 

Ms Canal and Ms Chakman will commence their new roles in 2016.

Appointment of Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator 

In 2015 one of our whole school goals has been to focus on extension of our higher achieving students. Already significant progress has been made towards developing rich and challenging tasks which provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their potential.

The success of the HALO project and the VCE Extension Hub has prompted the development of the Gifted and Talented Co-ordination role to further support the needs of high achieving students from Year 7-12. For the next 2 years staff member Mrs Helen Smith has been appointed to the role of Gifted and Talented co-ordinator with core responsibilities for identification of high achievers, tracking of their progress and  the building of capacity of teachers to cater for their individual learning needs.

This role will complement the extensive learning support provided by our Learning Enrichment centre and enhance our ability to genuinely cater for the entire spectrum of ability levels within our school community.

Year 7 2017 Enrolment Information Evening 

A reminder that our information evening will take place next week for all those seeking enrolment for a Catholic Secondary Education at St Peter's College in 2017. The Information Evenings will take place on Wednesday the 14th of October at 6.30pm in the Multi-purpose Hall at the Cranbourne West Campus.

For those seeking enrolment at our East Campus an information evening will take place  and on Thursday the 22nd of October at 6.30pm at the Cranbourne East Campus of St Peter’s College. The evenings will provide an opportunity for families to discuss with senior staff the educational and pastoral needs of their children as well as listen to the experiences of some of our current students.

The focus of the information evenings will be on our 2017 intake however opportunities still exist for enrolments at both the East and West Campus for 2016 and all enquires in this regard should be directed to the school Registrar, Mrs Kelley Cooper. 

Art & Technology Evening

On Tuesday of next week the Arts & Technology Evening for the West Campus will take place and all parents and students are invited to attend to view the outstanding art and technology pieces created by our students during the course of the year. Awards will be presented for the outstanding achievement for each house at 7.30pm with the evening beginning at 7.00pm in the Multi-Purpose Hall.

The next series of Australian Apprenticeship My Gain videos have been published on YouTube. These videos ask apprentices and trainees to respond briefly to set questions about their job and job hunting experiences. West Campus News

Metro congratulates our VCE students on a successful end to their academic year, and wishes them well on upcoming exams.

Metro places a big focus on safety with respect to the movement of their customers and the reliability of our infrastructure. In line with this, we take this opportunity to encourage students that whilst using their services during end of year VCE celebrations, unsafe behaviours that cause an inconvenience or discomfort to other customers may contravene provisions within the Transport (Conduct) Regulations. Metro Authorised Officers are empowered to report these matters, which could in turn result in penalty notices being issued by the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport, and Resources, and in some circumstances police involvement.

This year Metro has made arrangements for increased staff presence at a number of its metropolitan stations, and on trains, during the period encompassing end of VCE school year celebrations.

Metro is a strong advocate of working with local schools to assist with educating students on rail safety issues and expected behaviours. 

IMPORTANT REMINDER: students who have celebrated their 17th birthday are required by law to obtain a Victoria Public Transport (VPT) Student Concession Card in order to continue using their concession Myki. Many students may not be aware of this, and Metro appreciates you bringing this to their attention. Application forms are available from any Metro premium station, or on-line

A Huge Thank You 

To all our Students, Families, Staff and St Agatha’s Parishioners a huge Thank You for your wonderful support.

With your help we have been able to reach our target of 50 Backpacks4Kids plus a number of cartons of other items for the organisation to be able to distribute.

I will continue to accept any donations and forward them on your behalf.
When you start a new project like this, you are never sure where it can go. I have been truly humbled by the words and actions of support I have received for this project.

St Peter’s College Annual Art Exhibition West Campus

One of the College’s much anticipated events will be held in the College Multi-Purpose Hall, West Campus next week.

Tuesday 13th October from 7.00pm to 8.00pm our West Campus students Art and Technology work for 2015 will be on display and all Students, Parents, Family and friends are invited to attend for the presentation of the House Art Awards at approx. 7.15pm.

The Exhibition will remain on display till approx. 12 noon on Thursday 15th October, so if you can’t make it on the Tuesday night, please feel free to drop in anytime from 8.30 to 4.30pm on Wednesday and from 8.30 to 12 noon on the Thursday.

Student Exits End of Year

Could parents of students intending to leave St Peter's College at the end of the 2015 academic year please complete a Student Exit Form and return to the College as soon as possible.  This will allow us to respond to incoming enrolment applications for 2016. Student Exit Forms are available from the College Office.

Students under the age of 17 not transferring to another school (Government, Catholic or Independent) are also required to complete a Transition from School Form.   This applies to students leaving to attend TAFE, apprenticeships or other approved pathways.  Transition from School forms are available from the College Registrar and must be completed in addition to the College Student Exit Form.

Cranbourne East Bus Service

For the past three years the College has been operating a bus service that encompasses two routes to get students to and from the College where public bus services do not operate.  The increase in student numbers in 2016 requires us to review the routes, bus stops and times. To enable St Peters to provide this service please ensure "Expression of Interest Slips" are returned to the East Campus no later than Friday 23rd October 2015.  

We are continuing to push for further public transport into the Selandra Rise Estate. The bus service we are providing will continue to be reviewed annually and its ongoing viability based on public transport into the area.
Where the service is oversubscribed, priority will be given to younger students.  

Students who have caught the bus this year, are NOT automatically given a seat on the bus for 2016.

Numerous prescription glasses have been handed into Lost Property. If you recognise your glasses from the photo please collect them from the office at the West Campus.

West Campus Textile Classes

We are again seeking donations to allow us to maintain these great classes, minimising or ideally without further costs to the students for materials.
Those Parents who attended our last Parents & Friends Meeting saw and heard about the great projects these students are able to undertake.

The Department would really appreciate any donations of cotton dress fabrics (plain or pattern), sewing threads, bias-binding and fabric ribbon. At this stage we have more than enough upholstery or stretch fabric.

Thank You if you are able to donate, these can be left at either the West Campus or East Campus Reception.

St Agatha's Parish News

Would you like to become an Alter Server: Fr Joseph will be holding an information/training session on Tuesday 13 October, 4.15 – 5.15pm in the Church for any children who would like to Alter Serve at St Agatha’s or St Thomas the Apostle.

Would you like to become an extraordinary Minister or Lector at St Agatha’s or St Thomas the Apostle Church?  An information/training session for parishioners who would like to assist in these important ministries will be held on Wednesday 14 October at 7.30pm in the church. We also encourage those already on the rosters to come along if they would like to have a refresher course.

St Agatha’s Parish Voice for Life Dinner:  We are having a dinner on Friday 30 October at 7.00pm in the Parish Hall.  There will be canapes on arrival followed by a two course dinner and drinks. Our guest speaker, Anne Lastman is a renowned speaker and counsellor who will be speaking on "Healing, Love & Hope”. To book tickets contact the Parish Office.  Cost $18 per person.

St Therese’s Twilight Carnival: November 6 from 4.00 until 9.00pm. Come and support St Therese’s Twilight Carnival and enjoy Carnival rides and over 30 stalls. A fantastic family event ending in a fireworks display. We will have a children’s second hand stall and a White Elephant stall, so if you have anything to donate, please don’t hesitate to contact the school on 5996 7525.

Ms Olimpia Rosenblum joined the College in 2014 and this year has taken up the position of Teaching and Learning Coach – Languages at our East Campus, as well as continuing her role as Exchange Coordinator. The role of Exchange Coordinator encompasses both our East and West Campus. Olimpia has a strong background in languages and the Arts, having lived and worked in Paris for over 9 years. Olimpia will focus her presentation on the College Exchange Program for the meeting.
